Lab News: Progress on QUIET

On April 15, the QUIET receiver shipped to Caltech.

QUIET array feedhorns on cryostat support. Not obvious but still present are the detectors and protection circuitry boards below the feedhorns.

QUIET electronics crate.

Shown is the QUIET Q band cryostat. At the time this picture was taken the cryostat is being cooled to cryogenic temperatures. Inside are the feedhorns, various optical components, and 6 detectors. In the background (the large tan box) is the electronics box, containing the electronics boards necessary for turning on the detectors and reading out the data.

Shown here is the test setup used to test QUIET detectors at Columbia. In the foreground is a feedhorn with OMT, a detector (small brass sliver of the detector can be seen), and the circuit board which sends the bias voltages to and reads signals from the pins of the detector. You can see also the cryogenic refrigerator with strapping, and the protection circuitry in the background.
